Bill of Sale

Along with the transfer of title, it's very important that you and the seller draw up (or download and print) an auto bill of sale. This documents the details of the transaction that has just occurred should any dispute arise in the future.

The form should contain:

    - Name and address of the buyer
    - Name, address and signature of the seller
    - Complete vehicle description, including the VIN, purchase price of the vehicle, etc.

Make sure that both you and the seller sign and date the completed bill of sale!

Automotive bill of sale forms are required in many states to before you can register a newly-purchased used car, so make sure to bring it in to the DMV with you. These states require that you use a state specific automotive bill of sale, so make sure you check with your local DMV to see what the laws are applicable to you.
